The Lonely Rowan Tree - an ecological tale
Our tales starts at the end of the last ice age and follows the experience of a rowan tree and her children through time. We see the changes that happen to the landscape and consider what the future may be.
This story was inspired by the lonely trees that dot our land, standing in places where woodlands should grow. I was particularly encouraged to write this story after hearing about the Survivor tree in the Carrifran Valley, managed by the Borders Forest Trust. This tree has bee nominated as the UK entry for European tree of the year.
The story was first performed on 17 Feb 2021 as part of the Scottish Storytelling Centre's Stories on the Way series.
